YoungBoy Never Broke Again
The rapper YoungBoy Never BrokeAgain announced his return to music Tuesday (Feb. 26). He shared a video titled “Jump To Navigation,” where he raps about how he wants to jump to the top of the charts again. In the song, he references himself as a young boy and says that he never broke. He goes on to say that he was ready to come back because he wanted to make sure that he still had what it takes.
Kentrell Gaulden was one of three children born into a single mother household. His birth name was Kentyell Gaulden Jr., but he later changed it to Kentrell Gaulden because he felt like “Kentyll sounded too much like Kenny Rogers”. At age 2, he suffered a broken neck during a wrestling match with his brother. This required him to wear a head brace until the spinal cord healed. The scarring on his forehead was caused by the brace.
Gaulden was raised mostly by his paternal grandmother, due to his father having been sentenced to 55 years in jail. When he was 8, she passed away from heart failure.
After his release from juvenile detention, Gaulden began living with his friend and fellow local rapper, NBA Three (also known as OG Three), whom he met when he was 12. They became close friends and began recording music together.
The two then used acts of criminal activity to begin to pay for their studio time. By the time he turned 14, Gaulden had already recorded several songs and performed live sets. In 2009, he signed a record deal with Atlantic Records.
In 2010, Gaulden released his debut mixtape, The First Two Minutes, under the moniker Kentrell Gaulden. The tape received positive reviews from critics and fans alike, earning praise for its production and lyrics.
He followed up The First Two Minutes with a second mixtape titled I’m On My Way. Again, the project received critical acclaim and was well received by fans.
