Baby Keem is an American rapper and singer born on October 22, 2000. His musical style incorporates hip hop music, R&B, trap, dancehall, reggae, and soca. He grew up listening to artists such as Drake, Kanye West, Future, Meek Mill, J Cole, Migos, Travis Scott, Young Thug, and others.

In 2017, he signed with Interscope Records and Atlantic Records. On July 14, 2018, it was announced that he had been dropped from both labels due to creative differences.

Keem released his debut album, titled Blue Chips, on September 13, 2018, under his production team Themselves.

Early Life

Hykeem Carter grew up in the Bronx, New York City, where he attended P.S. 64 public school. He began playing piano at age four and guitar at eight. At age five, he learned how to play drums. His parents are both musicians; his father plays bass and his mother plays keyboards. He stated that his family had always been musical, having played together since he was young. In high school, he took lessons in classical pianist while learning about hip hop and R&B music.

Keem’s love for rap stemmed from growing up in the Bronx, NY. He watched his aunt burn CDs on her computer and listened to them on her stereo system. He remembers one particular day sitting in her room listening to Kanye West’s 808’s & Heartbreaks. He says it inspired him to start making beats, which led him down the road to becoming a rapper. As a child, he loved hip-hop music, but it wasn’t until he heard Kanye West’s album 808’s & Heartbreaks that he really got into it. He recalls listening to the album over and over again, trying to learn every part of the song. He eventually bought his own copy of the album and taught himself how to produce songs.

While attending Public School 64, Keem used to hang out with friends who played video games like Call Of Duty and Halo. One night, he saw another kid playing a game called Minecraft. He asked his friend what it was, and he told him that you could build anything within the game. After seeing the potential of building things within the game, Keem thought he might want to make his own version of it. He soon realized that there weren’t many people doing what he wanted to do. So he started creating his own game and named it All Mighty Modz. Keem began posting videos of his creations on youtube, and soon enough he gained popularity.
