It’s no secret that Donald Trump is likely the least mentally stable individual to ever assume the presidency. In fact, all evidence points to his being downright crazy. There is one person who has some insight into Trump’s behavior: NBC News Political Director and Meet The Press moderator Chuck Todd.
Todd has interviewed Trump bunches of times over the course of this campaign, and when he decided to appear on Politico’s “Off Message” podcast, he had quite a few things to say about Donald Trump. One of the weirdest is the fact that Trump watches his own interviews on mute, because he is obsessed with how he looks to the public. Todd says:
“He will watch the whole thing on mute. He thinks this way, and look, it’s an important insight in just understanding him. The visual stuff is very real beyond just himself.”
The television host also noticed something incredibly unsettling about Trump: he seems to have ZERO sense of humor. As in NONE. Todd says:
“[It] drives me crazy. Do you know what? I’ve never seen him laugh. I challenge somebody to find him laughing, and that person has yet to find an example, in my opinion. He’ll smile, but he smiles appropriately. Watch him at the Al Smith dinner [the roast in New York City in October] … He doesn’t really laugh. He looks for others to laugh. It is just weird.”
It is weird. Anyone who doesn’t laugh at all definitely has mental stuff going on. Then again, it’s Trump, so we already knew that.
Todd went on to talk about what he calls Trump’s “daddy issues”:
“There’s nothing like a parental issue to add a chip … My name is Chuck Todd and I have a chip on my shoulder about my dad … Everybody has the chip.”
Part of Trump’s “daddy issues” could stem from the fact that during the presidential campaign, when Trump’s own racism and past history of racist business practices came to light, it was also revealed that The Donald’s deceased daddy, Fred Trump, had been associating with the Ku Klux Klan. Trump, of course, dismissed these allegations, saying that “there were no charges.”
Sure, I’m betting there weren’t. Plenty of Klansmen did terrible things in the 1920’s and got away with it. The lack of charges means absolutely nothing. All in all, what Chuck Todd is saying about the pathology of Donald Trump here is not just bizarre. It’s terrifying that this is the guy we’re about to give the nuclear codes to.
Be afraid, America. Be very, very afraid.’
